Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL), a gold exploration and development company in Osun State, has granted scholarships to 46 students to strengthen ties with the host community. Additionally, the company has empowered 30 women in the host communities of Imogbara, Odo-Ijesha, and Iperindo through initiatives focused on entrepreneurship and sustainability.
Madhurii Sarkar-Amoda, the community development and stakeholder manager, expressed pride in the impactful day and emphasized the company’s commitment to addressing the needs of the host communities. Segilola Resources views the communities as partners in progress and is dedicated to making a positive and lasting impact.
Among the scholarship beneficiaries, 20 were secondary school students and 26 were in tertiary institutions. The top-performing students in each category received laptops to enhance their education and prepare them for the technology-driven world.
The company’s initiatives demonstrate its focus on creating shared value through its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) approach. In addition, Segilola equipped the laboratory at Iperindo Secondary School with modern tools to generate interest and competitiveness in STEM fields.
Through the Segilola Women’s Initiative Programme (SWIP), SROL supported women entrepreneurs in the host communities with essential equipment, tailored training, and ongoing mentorship. To date, SWIP has assisted 120 women entrepreneurs, promoting economic independence and community resilience.
Furthermore, Segilola Resources installed 150 solar-powered streetlights across its host communities to enhance safety and energy access, aligning with sustainable development goals. The company’s commitment to renewable energy solutions was underscored by this investment.
The event marked a milestone in SROL’s ongoing efforts to contribute meaningfully to its host communities and emphasized the importance of its social license to operate.
